How much does it cost to use the site?
Nothing! It is absolutely free to search, find, and request a rental on The Room Exchange Network, as well as to list a property on the site.
Do I need to create a tenant account to search listings?
No. You can search listings as a guest without registering as a tenant. However, to communicate with landlords and request properties, you need to register as a tenant.
How do I register as a tenant?
Unlike many short-term rental sites, our tenant registration process is short and simple – it will take a maximum of two minutes to register as a member of The Room Exchange Network. To register as a tenant, all you need to do is provide basic contact information. (Please note that we will never display your personal information, nor will we distribute it to third parties.) You will then be ready to search for your next affordable rental!
I’ve completed the registration process. Now what?
You are ready to search for a room and communicate with landlords. Simply select the destination city or zip code, and browse through the options available. Once you have found a room, specify your dates, and complete the reservation form, which will send an email to the landlord and alert him/her to your interest in renting the property. The landlord should contact you within the next day or so to arrange details
Is there a way to learn about previous tenants’ experiences with a landlord or property?
Yes. We have a feedback system, under which both tenants and landlords provide feedback on their experiences with one another. We encourage you to review feedback provided by past tenants. Please complete feedback on your landlord following your stay.
How can I trust that listings are accurate / legitimate?
Per our Terms of Use, we make no guarantees as to the accuracy of information in listings. Where possible, you should review the feedback provided by previous tenants. Additionally, feel free to request that the landlord provide photos, or any supplementary information that will enable you to evaluate the reliability listing or the suitability of the property. Please report any egregious abuse to admin@roomexnet.com.
I have confirmed a rental. How do I pay?
At the present time, The Room Exchange Network offers no funds transfer or payment collection services. Landlords and tenants should arrange payment terms and conditions.
Will I be required to pay a deposit?
Security deposits are at the landlord’s discretion, but many do require non-refundable deposits to secure the reservation.
What if I request a room and never hear back?
Unfortunately, this happens from time to time. In this case, we suggest you attempt to make the reservation one more time and if you still do not hear back, please feel free to give the owner a negative review. The expectation from owners is that they provide some acknowledgement of all requests within 48 hours.
How will I “check in” to my short term rental?
Your landlord will provide instructions for retrieving your key at check-in, as well as returning the key at checkout. Be sure to confirm these details with your landlord no later than one week prior to check-in.
Do I need to bring towels, toiletries, or linens?
Landlords registered with The Room Exchange Network must provide tenants with (at least) clean sheets, a towel, and a private room. If you require additional amenities beyond those listed in the property advertisements, then you should consult with your landlord or make arrangements to bring them.
I’m traveling to a city not included, can I still use roomexnet.com?
Yes, please use the zip code search which covers the entire United States.
What happens in the event of a dispute with my landlord?
Good sense and judgment should minimize such incidents. Our expectation is that you will treat your landlord’s home with the respect it deserves. A sublet contract with your landlord should enable all parties to agree on accountabilities. You might also consider asking your landlord whether s/he has renter’s or homeowner’s insurance.
Please note that The Room Exchange Network assumes no liability or loss of any kind for claims assessed either against a tenant or a landlord, and that both parties enter into agreements at their own risk, independent of the Network.
